But Patriots fans collectively held their breath on Sunday night during the MayeDay Celebrity Softball Classic, hosted by star quarterback Drake Maye and his wife Ann Michael Maye for charity, when Stevenson was taken out by comedian Matt Rife on an attempted tag out at second base.
During the game, Rife was caught in a rundown between first and second base. He tried to get out of the jam, and he nearly succeeded, but not before giving Patriots fans a mild heart attack in the process.

As he tried to slide into second base and avoid the tag, Rife dove toward the base and ended up taking out Stevenson at the legs.

Fortunately for the 28-year-old running back, Rife didn’t make serious contact with his legs, and he was able to skid out of harm’s way. Stevenson sprung up pretty quickly, but not jokes started pouring in on social media about Rife nearly ending his season.
“Matt Rife almost put Rhamondre Stevenson on IR 😭😭,” one fan replied.
“I would have absolutely lost it if that clown hurt mondre,” another fan stated.
“@mattrife I know you are new to being a pats fan so let me teach you something about Boston fans. Don’t [expletive] with our teams athletes. You almost became the most hated guy in a region,” a third fan scoffed.
“Rife smashed all Rhamondre 2026 unders before showing up to the game,” one user quipped.
...“It was almost t Henderson szn 🙁,” noted one user.
“Bro dove right for his knees wtf haha,” another user wrote.
Stevenson has spent his entire five-year NFL career in New England. He’s totaled 3,669 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns along with 186 catches, 1,295 yards receiving, and four more scores.
