However, the organization later voided roughly $27 million in Aiyuk's 2026 salary guarantees following concerns surrounding his recovery process and missed rehab activities.
That decision, combined with a series of developments involving Aiyuk — who has spent much of the past year away from the team while recovering from a serious knee injury — has created what appears to be a strained relationship between the two sides, one that many believe is headed toward a trade before the upcoming season.

The 49ers have reportedly been exploring trade options, but Aiyuk's sizable contract and the uncertainty surrounding his recovery have complicated efforts to move him.
One team that continues to surface as a potential landing spot is the Washington Commanders, and Aiyuk may have added fuel to that speculation on Monday.
On Instagram, Aiyuk unfollowed nearly everyone, leaving just three accounts: his wife, the Commanders' official account, and Washington star quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Aiyuk topped 1,000 receiving yards in both 2022 and 2023 with the San Francisco 49ers, recording a combined 15 touchdowns during that span. His production helped earn him the lucrative contract extension he had been seeking before the 2024 season.
However, his momentum was derailed early in that season when he suffered a torn ACL and MCL. The injury sidelined him for the remainder of the 2024 campaign and kept him out for the entirety of the 2025 season as well.
