The Houston Texans already knew what they had in wide receiver Nico Collins, but they were reminded how badly they need him in their AFC Divisional loss to the New England Patriots in January.

Collins, 27, missed the game due to a concussion he suffered during the Texans' 30-6 wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers six days prior. Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud had the worst game of his life — throwing four first-half interceptions and looking utterly shaken — so maybe it wouldn't have mattered. But it's hard to believe Collins' presence wouldn't have at least mitigated the disaster, if not shifted the game in Houston's favor.

The Texans signed Collins to a three-year contract extension in May 2024, so he's locked through the 2027 season, but the Texans went the extra mile to ensure he knows how important he is to the team moving forward.

"Pro-Bowl WR Nico Collins and the Texans reached agreement today on an adjusted contract that guarantees his salary the next two seasons, and also includes a $9 million cash increase this year and an $8 million cash increase next year, per his agents Drew and Jason Rosenhaus," ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.
