Alex Tuch notched his fourth career hat trick on Thursday night to lead the Sabres past the visiting Los Angeles Kings 4-1 on Thursday night. Alex Lyon made 37 saves in the win, and Jack Quinn picked up three assists. Mattias Samuelsson also scored for Buffalo, which won its fifth game in a row.
Captain Nick Suzuki scored both on the power play and shorthanded on Thursday night, adding an assist as well, as Montreal hammered the visiting Colorado Avalanche 7-3. Jakub Dobes stopped 26 shots while Juraj Slafkovsky posted a goal and an assist. The Canadiens took a 3-1 lead in the opening 7:33, with Noah Dobson opening the scoring just 56 seconds in. Jake Evans, Kirby Dach, and Alexandre Carrier also lit the lamp in the win.
Buffalo beat the Habs at home on Jan. 15 and picked up a road win on Jan. 22 after losing the team’s first meeting in Montreal on Oct. 20. Tage Thompson leads the Sabres with 28 goals and 55 points, while Tuch ran his total to 22 goals on Thursday. Lyon is 13-6-3 with two shutouts, a .914 save percentage, and 2.62 goals against average. Cole Caufield’s 30 goals top the Canadiens, with Slafkovsky netting his 20th on Thursday. Dobes is 17-5-3 with an .890 save percentage and 2.96 GAA.
