Chicago scored the first and last goals of the game on Thursday night, but the Pittsburgh Penguins lit the lamp six times in between, including four goals in the second period, to run away with a 6-2 rout at home. Connor Murphy put the Blackhawks ahead 1-0 at 9:32 of the first period, and Connor Bedard found the back of the net with 5:29 left in the game as Chicago was outshot 44-20 on the night. Frank Nazar assisted on both goals.
Charlie Coyle finished with a goal and an assist, and Sean Monahan scored with 3:28 remaining to give the Blue Jackets the lead on Wednesday night in a 5-3 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers. Coyle’s goal came just 38 seconds into the game, and Columbus took a 3-1 lead before the Flyers battled back to tie it with 4:46 to go. Kirill Marchenko and Erik Gudbranson also scored for the Blue Jackets, and Mathieu Olivier sealed it with an empty-netter.
Marchenko and Zach Werenski share the team lead for Columbus with 19 goals apiece, and Werenski, the top-scoring defenseman in the NHL, tops the squad with 57 points. Jet Greaves is 16-12-6 with a shutout, a .908 save percentage, and 2.68 goals against average. Tyler Bertuzzi’s 25 goals top the Blackhawks while Bedard checks in with 21 goals and a team-high 50 points. Spencer Knight, who didn’t play on Thursday, is 15-14-7 with three shutouts, a .910 save percentage, and 2.59 GAA.
